About

The Late Victorian Society of Melbourne (LVSM) is a vastly growing social group, bringing together diverse people from across Australia interested in recreating the amazing aspects of history in the later Victorian era of 1870 to 1910.

LVSM was established in 2021 to become a home for likeminded individuals and groups to create period events and activities for Victorian era romanticists, like us, such as:

  • Monthly meet ups ranging from outings, where Members can frock up in period attire, to talks about history, and sewing bees, etc.
  • Bi-Annual soirée to welcome incoming Members
  • Annual grand Victorian ball, where our hard work through the year can be shown off in lavish style, while we wine and dine in the exuberance of fashion and comfort.
  • Partnership events such as period camps and picnics with other groups.

Aims

Unlike in Europe and the United States, Historical recreation, living history, and re-enactment are still growing hobbies in Australia. LVSM wishes to create partnerships and cross-promotion to strengthen this unique interest and hobby across Victoria and Australia.

Just like any part of history, there are a lot of myths, wives’ tales and misnomers surrounding it. LVSM is driven to educate about history and correct misinformation to the best of our abilities and will never falsify information

Disclaimer

Societal norms have changed considerably since the Victorian era and as such we approach this from an educational point of view and take careful consideration to the parts of history we recreate.

  • We do not endorse the harmful sentiments of the era.
  • We do not tolerate discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.
  • We acknowledge the adverse affect that colonisation had on cultures and communities that came before.
